Decided to do some Quaranteen Construction and totally remodel the living room.
Actually remembered to take a "before" picture
My wife caught me taking down the indoor siding
Looks like the stone fireplace was merely a facade
Down to the studs
Framework removed
"Before" shot of the outside, sliding glass door to be removed
New studs to frame the new door
New door, much much easier to go in and out of. I always disliked that sliding glass door...
Got the wall dried in
And now for the inside.
Oh, got some different siding to go with the deck, as it was already sectioned off from the other siding. I'll paint it white when I get a chance.
Drywallin'
Taking out the fireplace and chimney pipe, left a big hole in the ceiling
Figured I'd take out the chimney before it rained on me...
Not as messy a hole as I'd feared
Patched it with some new plywood
Added some window flashing, because, why not?
My new single layer has a bit of a dip in it from the surrounding double layer, but I think I did a decent job
More drywallin'
Got the mud smeared on there. My joint tapes were a little shoddy, but oh well.
Now to fix the hole in the ceiling...
Oh dear... I knew the floor was a little soft, but I ended up falling through it 😛 Luckily I didn't fall very far, and it didn't injure me at all. Glad it was me and not the fireplace insert... while there was a fire in it... yeesh. Years of dripping down a not-sealed-very-well chimney pipe rotted the floor out.
It was quite rotted.
Cut out the rot
Replaced it with new plywood and caulked it real good-like.
Have to cut a square out of the carpet so it's an easier patch
Doesn't look too bad from this angle
Back to the ceiling patch, got it taped and mudded, then sprayed some popcorn-ceiling texture on there, it's like it never existed!
Covering the old cedar plank half-wall stuff with some new beadboard, to blend in with the bar I built a while back
Forgot to buy more white outlets when I redid some of the electrics, so just went with the original black outlets and faceplates
New door with trim painted white
All done! My wife and oldest daughter cleaned it up and helped decorate it.
